Brenda and Dave’s Wedding in Moon Palace, Cancun

If you didn’t know, the people who make up the Portraits On White photo team are all wedding/portrait photographers!

Hello world! We just flew back from Mexico from Brenda and Dave’s wedding. We met this awesome couple about 1.5 years ago at another wedding where we were the photographers and they were guests! Shortly afterward, Brenda got in touch to let us know that they would be returning to Moon Palace for their own wedding and enlisting our services as the wedding photographers and our Portraits On White. Now, we don’t take traveling lightly because well, our equipment is not light! Even though we’ve flown our services out to Miami, Hong Kong and more, there are significant logistical challenges that come from it — projecting our gear from the wear and tears of traveling, weight, making sure what we take with us is manageable by the team in case we need to walk with it or carry it some distances. One challenge we had to consider for this wedding was the wind that would be by the beach! So we also brought in sandbags and change our light modifiers in order to withstand the wind. We coordinated several times with the wedding planners, the resort as well as Brenda directly in order to make sure the setup location/area would be suitable for our equipment. Days leading up to the event, our team scouted out the area, thinking of back up plans and redundancies in case of traverse weather conditions. Sure enough, on the day of the wedding itself, the wind picked up the most it had ever done in the previous days and Brenda made the exec decision to have the reception inside a glass-walled pavilion instead of the beach. To be honest, we were relieved! While we were ready to rock the outdoor beach setting, having a controlled and predictable setting just makes things so much easier for us since we’re generally dealing with a lot of unpredictable little fires we have to put out.

A new logistical challenge we had for this particular trip was how to fly down with our state of the art printer. We wanted to surprise Brenda and Dave with on-site printing since we didn’t have this service 1.5 years ago and Brenda had expressed that she had intentionally bit the bullet to have the Portraits On White at her wedding as a way to gift her guests. SO we thought, what better way to kill two birds with one stone than to give Brenda and Dave with on-site printing and allow their guests to have a physical, take-home copy that very night!? Turns out, lugging our entire printer station down to Mexico was a great choice, and the ROI was unbelievable.

Since the setting was so intimate, we adapted our session to be flexible, having it weave in and out of the evening’s festivities. Plus, we also had to capture the wedding itself too! #multitaskingforthewin
We’re so happy with how all of our logistical planning and grunt work paid off for this event and stay tuned for some highlights from Brenda and Dave’s actual wedding day!
